How to Apply

The Application

  1. Complete the , adding a title and short abstract of your presentation topic in the corresponding fields, as well as the information on your faculty mentor.  
  2. Before submitting the application form, you MUST upload:
    1. a budget that reflects the costs of attending the conference (registration, travel costs, lodging, etc.)
    2. a copy of the letter/email of acceptance from the conference, or other verification that you will be presenting
3. After submission, an automated email will be sent to your faculty mentor, asking them to upload a brief Statement of Support of your presentation.   Once the mentor uploads the statement and accepts the form, your application is complete and will be reviewed.  

Applications will NOT be reviewed until the budget and acceptance are attached and the mentor submits the Statement of Support.

Application Checklist 

  1. Ask your project advisor for a statement of support

  2. Draft a short abstract describing your presentation topic

  3. Complete the OURSD Program Application and attach your application documents

Applications are accepted year-round as funds last - there is no deadline.

Acceptance and Payment

After you have received an e-mail notification of an approved Presentation Award, please download this CONTRACT. The contract must be completed by you, your faculty mentor, and the faculty’s departmental business manager, then returned to Jen Weidenhof.  If your faculty mentor is from an organization outside of Carnegie Mellon, please contact Jen Weidenhof for further instructions.

Funds are usually transferred to the faculty mentor’s department and expenses can be paid for or reimbursed from there.  In cases where the department cannot pay those funds, or if the faculty mentor is not from Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø, our office can issue payment directly to the student.
